It’s late afternoon by the time the alarms sound to announce that Unguin’s Princess has emerged from hyperspace. Will, Jie and Arvor head off to the bridge to plot a course to Egypt. As Egypt is such a huge planet, it’s a long haul to get dirtside. Will announces that the ship’s ETA will be around 4.00am the next day.
This news leads Grim to start moaning about the deficiencies off the Princess’s ‘pathetic’ Maneuver-A Drive and how much time and money they would save with an upgrade to a Type-B. Max’s sighs – he’s getting tired of Grim’s constant moaning now.
“All right then, Grim,” he sighs again. “I guess that I could live with a ton less of hold space. We need to save up our pennies though. I reckon we’ll get around a 50% trade in for our A-Drive, which means we need to find MCr. 6 from somewhere for the upgrade. I reckon we could manage it with a few good months of trading a few lucrative jobs – as long as you don’t keep spendin’ my seed capital on more bleedin’ guns and stuff. Ain’t you lot got enuff of ‘em already?”
“Woohoo!” shouts Grim, “I’m gettin’ new drives! Glisten Merchants Starship Relay Regatta here we come!” [does a little dance, runs off to Engineering to say goodbye to ‘Mo’, the old M1 Drive…]
The last evening that all of the passengers will spend onboard together is an excuse for the Horkalites to pull out all the stops for a nine-course banquet. With the arrival happening in the middle of the night, there’s no point in anyone going to sleep and so they stay up late, eating and drinking and watching Egypt get larger on the viewscreen in the passenger lounge.
